FTP Riders keep on smashing it ;o)

Posted by fenner on May 10, 2010

Well since the last race update FTP Training riders have been smashing out some top performances in all disciplines all over the World.

Over in Dalby Forrest and the first World Cup race of the year young Rebecca Henderson in her first senior race moved up from a starting position in the 100’s to finish 61st and ahead of notable riders such as Gunn Rita Dahle, well done Bec a great start to your first senior year of World Cups.

Also abroad in South Africa Steve Forster has continued to improve and has won his first Enduro Super Classic well done mate a result for all your hard work.

Closer to home and riders have been smashing it, on the road FTP rider Mick “Tarmac” Troy was in the thick of the action in B grade at the Canberra Tour and was in second place after 2 stages only to crash at a feed and have to chase back on to finish 4th. Great work mate and massive numbers. Michael was helped by 11th overall FTP rider Damo Mason who as usual rode a strong and consistent race to just miss out on a top 10.

Becky Mates is very new to MTB’s sister of Olympic Snowboarder Ben Mates she is a young woman who is going to start winning a fair few more races mark my words. Becky smashed the Dirt Works 50km in a time of 2 hours and 3 seconds that is very fast and would have placed her in the top 6 in the men’s category!!!! Look out elite girls ;o)

In the 24 hour Nationals FTP Training had 7 podiums across the different categories. Garry James and Diane Perry won the 45 – 49 age group, Jason McAvoy was 2nd in 35 – 39 and Richard Peil 2nd in 40 – 44 with Jeff Rooney 3rd  Jacqui Kennett was 3rd in the 35 – 39 age group and 4th overall after backing up winning the Terra Aus with Melinda Behrens. Mark “Tupac” Tupalski won the 6 + 6 smashing out fast consistent laps.

Locally on the road Team FTP Training has been winnning lots of things with the last race being the Teams Time Trial great work team lets keep on smashing it.

A, B, C and D grade FTP Training winners and grinners

Lots of News for Fenz and FTP Training

Posted by fenner on May 4, 2010

Firstly, it’s been quite a long time since I last blogged, due to lots of exciting new things occurring in the old Fenz life and FTP Training.  After nearly five years of riding under the banner of Total Rush and the fantastic support of the owner Simon Coffin, old Fenzmeister is moving on to ride with Torq.

Simon Coffin catches me at the end of an epic race

3rd in the World with my mate a sponsor to look after me

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Simon Coffin personally, as throughout the last five years Simon has been a fantastic support to me.  He flew to Canada in 2008 to support me in the pits at the World Championships and he enabled me to ride numerous Jayco Bay Criteriums, even lining up in the Pro Category one year and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Stu O’Grady, Bayden Cook and the whole gannet of European professional cyclists.  Simon is a true gentleman and a bloody good mate.

Riding for the pink Total Rush squad has been a true pleasure.  Winning two pairs Scott 24hr Champs with Sam Bach and coming second in the Terra Australis in 2009 were great moments, thanks Sam!

I would also like to thank Jenny who is always on the end of the phone in the shop to look after sending parts and bikes all over the world to keep me up and running.

So now that leaves the exciting news that Fenz is moving to ride with the Torq squad for 2010 and beyond.  As most of you might be aware, Dean from Torq and myself have been working together to develop the power based training camps in the last year.  Dean has been looking after my nutritional needs with the fantastic Torq products for well over a year now.  The enthusiasm of Dean and his whole Torq team along with the best nutritional products on the market really paved the way for FTP Training and Torq to forge our links even stronger and it seemed logical that I should be riding for the Moist and Chewy crew!

I am really stoked as I love change and progression; Dean and I have sat down and discussed a huge amount of training, nutrition and skills based opportunities that we will be working on in the coming years.  Along with these great opportunities for the cycling community I am very exciting to be riding the new Cube bikes and I am keen to put them through their paces on the dirt, in road races and in time trials.

The collaboration with Torq is also enabling some changes to FTP Training and over the coming weeks you will see many changes on the website.  The first major change will be the online shop.   FTP Training will be able to provide all makes of power meters, power taps, quark and SRMs along with all the Torq nutritional product and the full range of FTP Training road and Mountain Bike kit.

Within the next week there will also be the possibility to sign up for the next FTP Training/Torq 24 hour worlds training camps in September.  This will be held in Fitzroy Falls in the Southern Highlands and offer some of the best rides in Australia both on and off road in the Kangaroo Valley area.  The online booking form will go live hopefully sometime in the next week.  Places are limited and there is a lot of interest.  So, if you wish to attend the most up to date, cutting edge, power based training camps to boost your chances in the World Championships book your place quick.

See you all on the trail, cause Fenz is well and back on the bike big time ;o)
